Shakespeare Sunday Creature from the Black Lagoon

Shakespeare Sunday Creature from the Black Lagoon

Extending its dominance of the horror genre into the 1950s, Universal Studios releases The Creature from the Black Lagoon on March 5, 1954 (the film premiered in Detroit on February 12). Still loads of fun, and almost seven decades later, Milicent Patrick’s creature suit, arguably, remains the best monster prosthetic in film history (or at least a photo finish with the ALIEN xenomorph suit). The Creature spawned two sequels, and was the last of the great Universal monsters. It also clearly inspired director Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar winning The Shape of Water. A Shakespeare Sunday salute to Uncle Gilbert!
