The view of the crater at the Haleakalā summit makes you feel like you’re on an alien planet. According to Hawaiian folklore, this crater was home to the grandmother of their demigod, Māui. Legend has it that she helped Māui capture the sun and force it to slow its passage across the sky so as to lengthen the day. Resourceful lady.
